The Diploma in Business & Management - Level 3 course is the equivalent level to two A-Levels or Access to Higher Education qualifications.

About Course

The ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Business & Management is a 120-credit Ofqual regulated qualification and is the equivalent level to two A-Levels or Access to HE qualifications. The Business and Management - Diploma Level 3 qualification has been designed with support from higher education providers and is intended for learners who wish to progress to a business or management degree but may not have the traditional entry qualifications usually required. The qualification provides learners with an introduction to the business environment and to marketing as well as key academic, research, and communication skills that are required for successful progression to higher education.

Who the Business and Management - Diploma Level 3 qualification is for?

This qualification is suitable for you if you intend to take a business and management degree but do not yet have sufficient, relevant attainment at Level 3 to meet the entry requirements for a higher education course or you wish to progress your career in a management role at entry level. 

Progression

On successful completion of the Business Management - Diploma Level 3 qualification, there are a number of progression opportunities.

Students can progress to:

  • A level 4 ATHE qualification such as the ATHE Level 4 Extended Diploma in Management
  • A degree programme
  • Students can go directly into employment in areas of growth in finance, administration and management

Assessment

There is no external assessment (i.e. exams) attached to any unit. You will be required to submit a final written assignment for each module.

Syllabus

You must complete 6 mandatory units worth 60 credits to achieve the ATHE Level 3 Diploma in Business.

Modules:

  • Managing Business Operations
  • This unit aims to introduce learners to key aspects of all businesses and how they operate within the wider business environment, as well as internally. Learners will explore the important business areas of finance, customer service, planning, decision making and operational control
  • Maximising Resources to Achieve Business Success
  • Effective use of resources can be business critical. This unit aims to ensure learners understand the range of resources businesses need, why this must be monitored and how this can be achieved through technology and other project management tools
  • The Business Environment
  • All businesses operate within a wider business environment – of which they must be constantly aware. This unit aims to introduce learners to all aspects of that external environment and how an organisation may choose to ‘position itself’ through marketing or its ethical image. The unit also considers the impact of culture on organisations.
  • Managing People in Organisations
  • People are often considered to be the most important resource in any organisation. This unit aims to give learners the knowledge and understanding about recruitment, performance management and development.
  • Working in Teams
  • Good teamwork creates synergy within an organisation. This unit introduces the learner to the skills of teamwork. Learners will explore the features of an effective team, motivation and leadership and the importance of delegating, influencing and developing excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Effective Business Communication
  • Good communication skills are critical to all those working in business. This unit explores the written and oral skills that are needed in a variety of business contexts.

Level of English Offered & CEFR Equivalents

Learners must also have an appropriate standard of English to enable them to access relevant resources and complete the unit assignments.

For those for whom English is not their first language, we recommend the following standards of proficiency in English language skills or an approved equivalent for this qualification:
  • IELTs 5.5 • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) B2
  • Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 162 or above
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic 42-49

Admission Requirements

This qualification is designed for students aged 16 and above.

For students who have recently been in education or training the entry profile is likely to include one of following:

  • Age: 16 +
  • 5 or more GCSEs at grades C and above
  • other related level 2 subjects
  • other equivalent international qualifications
  • Applicants must also have an appropriate standard of English to enable them to access relevant resources and complete the unit assignments
  • Applicants may also have relevant work experience

Mature students' route:

Mature students are encouraged to apply and will be considered after interview. You may be required to present a more varied profile of achievement that is likely to include relevant work experience (paid and/or unpaid), participation and/or achievement of relevant qualifications.

You do not need to have studied Business and Management before but an interest in the subject is important
